Is it true that the start of STDs came from people having sex with animals?

This isn't supposed to be some kind of crude or nasty question. I have been told this, but I am wondering if it's true. Is it? and How did people come around to having sex with animals? What would drive someone to do that?

I've heard the same thing. Only I thought they only did it with gorillas and monkeys for "scientific research". Apparently these cukoo scientists wanted to find out if we could ahem "mate" and "produce" offspring with monkeys and gorillas.
